This Is How I Write
Conflicting voices in my head
Stories waiting to be written can easily pile up if one is not careful and if daily distractions overwhelm you. List requests never really go away. They’re like feral creatures hiding in the shrubbery, waiting to attack you as soon as you come out of your house. I had an inspiration for a great story, and I ran to my laptop to write it, but as soon as it boots up, a loud voice crowds out all the other voices in my head! “You have 5 people that tagged you for 4 listicle articles. Get to it!!!” My fingers halt its descent toward the keyboard, as I stare at the blank white screen in front of me, the voices in my head get louder, each one shouting “Write me first!” A random inner voice reminded me that it has been a year since vol.1 of my ebook has been published. People are still waiting for vol. 2 of the ebook to appear. People are waiting for part 2 of the “Wayward Monk” story, another inner voice interjected. I lost the inspirational thread of that great story that I powered up the laptop for.
Frustrated, I get up and went to into the kitchen for a slice of key lime pie and coffee fortified with a splash of Jack Daniels (Not to worry! It’s early evening now). Sitting back down and at my laptop, my furry grandkids showed up crying to be fed. Into the kitchen once again, I fed them and left them as they gobbled up their food as if they have been starved…
