This is a good thought-provoking article. When I was a young lad, my dad taught me to always hold the doors open for ladies, offer your seat for women on trains and buses. I had always received a Thanks and a smile. Now, these days, I had experienced the indignity on occasions of being scolded for being sexist. One lady told me “I can open my own damn door!” I no longer hold open doors or offer my seat. I am retired now but I was once a night shift Fire and Safety manager at a company I worked for. I was trained and certified in CPR and First Aid. I often worry about what would happen if a female worker suffered a medical emergency and CPR was required to save her life and it wouldn’t have to occur on the job. A medical emergency can occur off the job when I’m out in public. I will not ignore the situation and I will still provide aid. I ‘m concerned about the questions like; do I need the consent of putting my mouth on hers to give breaths, the need for consent to loosen clothing to perform chest compressions or of touching her body to do these things. Luckily, I never had to provide aid to a female victim but it sure would have made me hesitate momentarily. Thanks for the great article!
