The Wayward Shaolin Monk

Tales of his travels part one

A young beggar boy was sitting on the side of a busy road observing travelers coming and going into the village not far up the road from him. He noticed an odd sight of a man walking on his hands coming toward him. Unable to contain his curiosity, he got up and ran toward him. As he got closer, he determined that the particular man was a monk from the clothes that he wore.

“Who are you?” “Where are you headed to?” the boy inquired of the monk. “I am Shan Po from Shaolin Temple and I am traveling to the village up ahead,” replied the monk. “What might your name be, boy?”, the young beggar paused a moment and said, “I have no name, but the other beggars whom I live with calls me Wuming” The monk chuckled and said that Wuming means nameless and that it is a strange name for a person. “Come then, you will be my guide into the village and you shall introduce me to your beggar friends,” declared the monk. Wuming, the beggar boy started walking alongside with Shan Po, the monk walking on his hands toward the village.

Wuming could not hold back any longer, he turned to Shan Po and asked him to explain why was he walking on his hands. The monk answered that he wished to and wanted to. “But you came from Shaolin Temple which is at least three days away and there seems nothing wrong with your legs that prevents you from using them…
