The news media was once a place where news was reported without any political bias but no longer. It was also a place where commentators of all political stripes were allowed to submit articles to be printed to reach the general audience without censorship as long as it wasn’t pornographic. It was a free speech and freedom of the press thing. But this is no longer the case as now the news organization’s finished product must reflect the owner’s and/or CEO’s political, racial, and religious bent. Journalist and political cartoonist must now seek out news media companies that match their views in order to be published. This causes their work to reach ever smaller audiences. Now it is also more dangerous for journalist and cartoonist because their dissenters believe that journalist and cartoonist can be jailed, met with violence, or shot to death. When authoritarian leaders are in power, freedom of the press and freedom of speech are the first things to be diminished or eliminated. I really like the cartoons shown in this article. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette should be ashamed of its censorship!
