Searching For Inspiration

It was a Saturday morning and I needed to get out of the house for a bit. I was hoping to find a subject for my next story. I decided to go check out Target. Much to my amazement, I found that virtually all the shoppers were women, just a handful of men and no kids. I asked a sales associate why the store was mostly women and she replied, “ After being cooped up in their house all week with kids and husbands, Target is the favorite destination for them to escape to and be free to be themselves. Well, I thought no story here, mainly because I did not want to interrupt any lady’s quiet time alone. Besides they seem quite happy.

I headed over to Walmart, hoping to find my muse there. I strolled through the women’s garment section and heard two women fighting over a dress. Loud voices escalated into something like a mixed martial arts match on TV. I quickly departed the area as a hoard of blue vested staff descended upon the combatants.

I went to the toy department and found the aisles strewn with Legos, Halloween masks and party decorations. In one aisle, there was a woman standing there who seemed to be in tears as three kids ran around her. I had enough of Walmart and decided to leave.

As I headed toward the exit doors, I noticed the elderly gentleman who was part of the store’s theft prevention staff checking receipts. He seemed to be having a good…
