My Writing Rewards Are Different From Yours
It’s not always about money
There are many reasons why people choose to become a writer. Some write to make money or supplement their income. Some write to fulfill a dream of being a writer. Others write to gain fame, to gain leverage in order to become an “influencer” as is the case on social media. A very tiny amount of people write for revenge or to seek justice. They write stories of negativity and gossip or their version of the truth to belittle or publicly humiliate those that they perceive to have wronged them in life. They also write their stories in multiple genres as they seek to find one that will reach the largest audience who will listen to their writing voice. Those are all perfectly valid reasons.
My reason for writing is a little different from those stated above. Although it’s true that the money I earned is nice to have but it won’t afford me a new car, home, or vacation travel around the world. It wasn’t a dream of becoming a writer as I was writing most of my life. I was writing tech manuals, lab reports, mission reports, procedural reports, and training manuals during my time in the military and career in Aerospace. That sort of writing can bore people to tears, but that was part of my day job at the time. I wanted to write non-technical stuff. I wanted to write stories to make people laugh.
