My question is where the hell did this nut allergy come from? Back in the 1950s’, when I was a snot nose kid, most of my classmates were from poor families. our lunches were always peanut butter sandwiches. We all ate together with the rest of the class and no kid ever keeled over from nut allergies. It could be the changes in our environment over time that have affected the pregnant mother and her fetus, coupled with changes in food processing by the food industry that brought about this food allergy. But I strongly disagree with isolating a kid just because he/she has brought a peanut butter sandwich. It is a form of bullying. It causes trauma and psychologic problems in the punished child. I know how that feels, as an Asian kid, I was bullied and suffered ridicule for lunches made by my mom during Asian holidays like New Year's day and such. My holiday lunch was sneered at because it looked and smelled strange to my classmates. I often ate alone because my teachers would say that my lunches were causing disruption. How ironic that now, my holiday school lunches are very popular and sought after. They are called “Dim Sum”! There is hope for the nut allergy sufferer and someday a working vaccine may be available, at the present time this is the most hopeful treatment: https://www.nhs.uk/news/medication/new-treatment-peanut-allergies-shows-promise/ Thanks for your story, Robin! apologies for being long-winded.
