Losing Weight For Charity
Raising Funds For The Local Chapter Of The Girl Scouts
I am as guilty as anyone of the mass consumption of cookies, cakes, pies, and candy, along with the many offerings of holiday foods. I know I have accumulated more than a pound or two. There was an opportunity to do some running and raise some money for a good cause. The local chapter of the Girl’s Scouts decided to raise money to fund this year’s activities by organizing a run. Their sponsoring message was “Let’s be healthy and help girls achieve their dreams.”
Who wouldn’t want to lose the holiday weight? Just look at the above picture of people participating, anorexic they are not! Who wouldn’t want to help young girls achieve their dreams? I helped raise two daughters, so I believe in that message. So I signed up for the 2k run without hesitation.
The day of the run arrived and we all lined up at the starting gate, as the gun went off, we took off running. The crowd roared their approval as we ran and the sound of our running feet invoked the phrase, “Day Of Thunder, like a herd of cattle” in my mind. We fell into a natural synchronous rhythm of accumulating globs of water flowing together into a river of obesity. The sight and sounds of us runners were a sight to behold!
