It’s Official! 2018 Black Hole Award Bestowed Upon Trump And His Administration

This 7th Annual Award was given bestowed by The Society Of Professional Journalist on March 16, 2018 to President Trump and his Administration.

A statement by Danielle McLean, SPJ Freedom of Information Committee chair says “A true democracy gives free and open access to the very public body it is supposed to serve. The Trump administration has so far done a fantastic job shielding the public from that essential access by censoring and withholding a record number of files requested through the Freedom of Information Act. Saying that, I urge the Trump administration to please stop this practice and start governing for the people.” The Trump Administration Trump administration set a second record, spending $40.6 million to defend its decisions to withhold requested files. The basic function of the Freedom of Information Act is to ensure informed citizens, vital to the functioning of a democratic society. Trump and his cohorts richly deserve this award for their continuing lies, half truths, and misleading statements and obfuscations. Examples of which are the following:

President Trump attacked the N.Y. Times in a tweet Saturday, claiming the paper made up a “senior White House official” for its story about the North Korea Summit being canceled. The official, a member of Trump’s National Security Council, actually does exist and led a briefing at the White House on Thursday for reporters. The White House even provided its own transcript of the briefing that Trump essentially dismissed as fake news.

Trump has bashed the Democrats for a hugely controversial policy created by his own administration: separating undocumented immigrants children from their parents. He urged Americans in a Saturday morning tweet to “put pressure” on the Democrats to “end the horrible law that separates children from their parents”. Despite what Trump tweeted, there is no law requiring children to be separated from their parents. The separation policy was adopted by his own administration. It was underscored in a speech in early May by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Health and Human services reported that 1,500 children cannot be located since separating them from their parents since Trump initiated this separation policy.

Trump still insists that neither he, the Trump Campaign, or the Russians have been involved in any collusion. A total of 19 people and three Russian companies have either been indicted or pleaded guilty to criminal charges. Here are some facts: Among those charged are Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who is awaiting trial in Virginia and the District of Columbia, and Michael Flynn who pleaded guilty in December for lying to the FBI and has been cooperating with Mueller’s investigation. Other cooperators include deputy campaign chairman Rick Gates and former campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadupolous.

Alex van der Zwaan,for lying to the FBI and is now serving a 30 day sentence,for lying to special counsel prosecutors and the FBI, and a California man who unwittingly sold bank accounts to Russians has also pleaded guilty.

The single largest criminal case involves 13 Russians and 3 Russian companies, accused of conspiring together to fund a hidden but effective social media campaign to exploit American divisions on race and other hot-button topics as well as favor Trump over Clinton.

Republicans said by a 56-point margin that voter fraud is a more widespread problem than eligible voters being prevented from voting. Trump insists that illegal immigrants and illegal voting are a huge problem that cost him to win the popular vote even if he did win the Presidential election. Studies have shown that this belief has no basis in fact and that election fraud is almost non existant.

On Wednesday may 23, 2018, Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald, of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, said President Trump’s Twitter account is a public forum and blocking people who reply to his tweets with differing opinions constitutes viewpoint discrimination, which violates the First Amendment.

The court’s ruling is a major win for the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, which brought the lawsuit on behalf of seven people who were blocked from the @realDonaldTrump account because of opinions they expressed in reply tweets.
