Irony

My wife was going to make some fresh bread because I was in the mood for it. In the kitchen, she had everything laid out. The right amount of flour was measured out and place onto the mixing board. Then the doorbell rang.

My wife answered the door, and it was our neighbor returning something she had borrowed. After some time spent chatting, the neighbor left. I was busy in the living room on my laptop exercising my fingers again. My wife returned to the kitchen. I then heard her scream.

Thinking that something serious has happened, I ran into the kitchen. I found my wife berating our cats who were up on the counter standing paws deep in flour, with flour on their faces. She picked up Linus and Joey to clean them up and left the kitchen. I stood there thinking of all that flour that I would have to throw away. Or would I? It would be a complete waste to toss out the flour, but the universe provided me with a good solution.

I gathered up all the flour into a pile and tossed in some sesame seeds, bird seed, and proceeded to complete the making of bread. Only this time, it would be to feed the birds outside the house. Waste not want not!

I was chuckling as I waited for the bread to come out of the oven. The irony of birds getting food with the help of their arch enemies, cats, and the cats kneading the bird’s food was funny to me.

To clear up any misunderstanding, our cats are indoor cats, they never go outside except in their pet strollers (there are such things!) pushed along by the wife and daughter. They love staring at birds through windows and patio doors!

I love irony!
