I was there with my fellow shipmates from the USS Volgelgesang DD-862 or “Vogie” as we called her, on a tour arranged by our Captain back in 1979. The Lockheed Martin Aegis program platform was a prototype mock up of a ship’s “CIC” (for those reading this who don’t know, CIC-Combat Information Center) and Bridge. The planned use of this mock up Aegis class ship was to be used as simulator to work out any bugs in the Aegis System hardware and software and develope a training program for the future sailors of the then new Aegis class of warships. At the time I was astounded by the interior of the ship’s Bridge. I and my fellow shipmates felt as if we were standing on the Bridge of the Starship Enterprise! I didn’t know that the Lockheed Martin Aegis Platform Mock Up Ship still existed. That picture you posted brought back fond memories for me. Ironically, I ended up years later working for Lockheed Martin in their Aerospace division in California! Thanks for your post, Jay!
