I was stationed in Pensacola May 1973 to attend Navy “A” school for Electronic Warfare Training. It was near the Naval Air Station by the Pensacola coast. I loved the beach but I hated the 3–4 showers a day I had to take because of the extreme humidity, and don’t get me started on the fire ants, I hated those little red bastards. I accidentally step on a fire ant hill and I had blisters on the lower half of my body for 3 weeks! Palmetto bugs are just big flying cockroaches but they are ugly to look at. I do remember the Base Commander put out an order not to go into certain areas of Pensacola because of problems of racism and “Townies” who dislike military personnel. If the climate deniers don’t change their thinking, parts of Florida will disappear into the Atlantic Ocean. Thanks, Craig, I enjoyed your post!
