I Just Want A Good Shave Gillette
This story is written in response to Elle Beau and her story: https://medium.com/@Ellesworld/lets-talk-about-the-gillette-ad-28290dfbde03 in which she requested my feelings on the Gillette Ad. Since I write Humor and Satire, I will respond in that manner.
Gillette is following in the footsteps of the Nike Ad which is famous for their Brand catchphrase of “Just Do It!” The Nike Ad employed the use of Colin Kaepernick in their latest Ad campaign that is in line with their original catchphrase. The new Ad now introduces the new Brand catchphrase of “ “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything. Just Do It.” Yes, it was controversial because of Kaepernick ’s position of kneeling during the National Anthem to protest inequality in America. The new catchphrase did not alter the original one, it only defined it better. Nike makes athletic clothes, shoes, and sports equipment. The idea of doing whatever it takes to achieve (Winning) a goal is not foreign to “Just Do It.” Most viewers saw very little controversy in the Ad except for the ultra-conservative crowd who always see a controversy in most things.
The Gillette Ad is different. Gillette purposely dipped their toe in the waters of changing a social culture pool and fell into the deep end of the pool! They never had any Brand catchphrases, to begin with. The causes of “Toxic Masculinity” is not…
